The HoloLens headset, a bridge between Le Creusot and Changzhou
Our Changzhou 2 plant is now ready to start up. We will give you a preview in our next “Together”. It is now up to the employees of this new site to familiarize themselves with all the stages in the assembly of the 28 m platform which is in the pre-industrialization phase at this new site.
To support the teams in place, all the assembly instructions available in ARAS have been updated with the latest improvements, including plenty of pictures to facilitate understanding and everything translated into Chinese, of course. In addition, each set of instructions is now supplemented by a related video to watch the operations live.
Training was scheduled for the Chinese teams at the Le Creusot site to help everyone get to grips with these new materials and enable them to practice the different operations. That was until the COVID 19 crisis put a spanner in the works, preventing the Changzhou teams from traveling to France.
Faced with this twist of fate, the teams in France, who are always ready to use their imagination, set to work to come up with a solution so that the Chinese teams would get the training they needed complete their mission!
Thanks to the teams in the design office and the Testing and Validation Center, the solution was very quickly found: the HoloLens headset! A pair of mixed reality goggles are used to simulate holograms which blend into the user’s field of vision. Through the HoloLens, the user continues to see what is around them, and the holograms add to and augment reality, making it possible to interact with others at the same time.
This headset could allow live assistance and thus supplement all the documentation that is already available.
The operators at Le Creusot immediately realized how useful this technology could be for remote support and to facilitate the learning of the teams in China.
Here is the proof on video/in pictures:
It’s a safe bet that this technology will be an additional means to ensure fluid communication between the continents and for many other applications within the Group, maybe to help our customers as well.
