“Equipment Manufacturers’ Environmental Trophy” by Kiloutou

Haulotte on the second step of the podium

On January 10, at the second edition of the event, the Volvo Group was awarded the “Equipment Manufacturers’ Environmental Trophy” by Kiloutou for its sustainable development approach. Both its construction equipment (Volvo CE) and its operating vehicles (Volvo Trucks) were recognized. Haulotte was on the 2nd step of the podium, a fact that we are very proud of!

Interview with Ludivine Béraud (Marketing Manager, Europe) and Bérenger Dudek (CSR Manager) who defended our Group with enthusiasm and professionalism.

Ludivine, Bérenger, can you explain to us what conditions had to be met in order to compete?

“We received an application package in September 2022. We had to explain the reasons why we wished to participate in the trophy and then set out our solutions and innovations enabling us to reduce the carbon footprint of our equipment. We also had to describe our environmental policy in detail,” explains Ludivine Béraud.

“Several prerequisites were compulsory in order to compete. These included an assessment of our CSR performance by ECOVADIS (ratings company which assesses the performance of sustainable development approaches). This was carried out in March 2022. On December 8, the three suppliers who obtained the best results were invited to defend their application in front of a jury which included several Kiloutou departments. And we were one of the three,” says Bérenger Dudek.

What aspects did you focus on?

“We didn’t want to simply repeat what was in our application. We wanted to present the development of our sustainable approach to the jury: from focusing primarily on quality and safety to a global CSR policy where the environment has its rightful place,” adds Ludivine Béraud.

“We highlighted what the Group was doing pre-2017, before the launch of our Blue Strategy and the choice to opt for the electric transition, what we are currently doing to reduce our customers’ carbon footprint (in particular the PULSEO range), and all our approaches and actions around sustainable development. We concluded by talking about the future, our ambitions for 2025, and our upcoming innovations,” says Bérenger Dudek.

A little bird told us that Manitou had finished 3rd. What was it that won us 2nd place?

“The KILOUTOU teams that we talked to really appreciated the fact that there were two of us making the presentation, Ludivine who was representing Marketing and Products, and myself, representing the sustainable development aspects of our approach.

They also clearly saw the very close link between our Products, Innovations and Service strategy and our environmental approach. These are not two different projects but the interweaving of both within the same ambition,” continues Bérenger.

Has this trophy given you any ideas for the future?

“We are already planning to adapt the presentation we gave to the jury and use it as a presentation that we could make use of with all our stakeholders: employees, suppliers and customers. It will be used to show them our commitments and our ambition with regard to the environment and sustainable development. There are other trophies dedicated to environmental issues, including the IAPAs sustainability award, for which we have applied!” confirms our colleague Ludivine Béraud.

“As Stéphane Hubert stressed during an interview at Chantiers de France in 2022: ‘four years after opting for the electric transition, the gamble has paid off. The market is picking up speed. We are very proud to have been the first to offer a fully electric all-terrain platform that benefits from additional power for demanding applications’.

For four years, we have been working on products, services and solutions taking into account the environmental challenges. The Haulotte teams play a committed and active role in this approach.

What’s the betting that the next Trophy will be ours!” concludes Bérenger Dudek.
