Haulotte launches its carpooling platform

Carpooling: your motivation, part of our ambition

The employees of H3, taken as a whole, travel 15,000 km from their home to work and back again… That’s the same distance separating France from Australia!

Considering the climate crisis facing us, we need to work together to reduce our environmental impact. For this reason, the Group launched its carpooling platform for all French sites on November 14. This project was spearheaded by the employees themselves through our E-Lab and it forms part of our strategic vision: Ambition 2025.

The carpooling platform embodies the Group’s Let’s Dare spirit. In 2021, two H3 employees, Laurent Muguet and Éloise Jacquet, went to the E-Lab with an idea. They wanted to make commuting better.

After a creative session, the project was approved by the Executive Committee this fall and carpooling has begun being encouraged. It responds to an important issue for our future, as conveyed by the project’s motto: Let’s dare together and reduce CO2 emissions from our daily commute.

First mobility audit

Employees already carpool but those are individual initiatives,” explained Laura Birades, Talent Development Manager.

To find out how much potential there was for carpooling and to develop the platform, we worked with the start-up Jeekan, which specializes in sustainable mobility.

From this, we decided to perform the Group’s first mobility audit.

This audit was conducted over our six French sites. It enabled us to identify how many employees would carpool and also obtain the information needed to calculate our carbon footprint from commuting,” Laura Birades described.

The numbers speak for themselves. Working off the assumption that everyone travels by car alone, employees release 1,286 tons of CO2 per year (2 tons of CO2 per year per employee), enough to melt almost 4,000 m² of arctic ice!

Out of 700 employees, 294 could carpool. It is a change in routine that could save almost 349 tons of CO2 per year and almost €2,400 every year for each carpooler!

Real action fitting our CSR ambitions

Our carpooling platform ties in with our strategic vision Ambition 2025. It is even the first concrete action linked to sustainable development.

It meets four goals:

  1. Offer employees a way to interact that encourages carpooling
  2. Reduce carbon emissions from the daily commute
  3. Reduce travel costs for employees
  4. Perform a carbon assessment on employees’ commutes

The platform is easy to use. You just need to register and answer a few questions when you first log in to get an idea on your commuting routine.

You then see the meeting points located along your journey. All that remains is to get in touch with the employees sharing the same journey and come to some arrangement.

Important: think about adding your carpooling journeys onto the platform. This will allow more accurate data to be collected and change your own carbon assessment in real time!
