Restart by Haulotte
The RESTART Center is now operational at the Horme site in France. Since its official launch among European subsidiaries, RESTART by Haulotte has been well covered in the trade press and on social media. But why is it attracting attention? It is the first “manufacturer” program dedicated to the refurbishment of used platforms on the European continent.
With RESTART by Haulotte, the Group is placing itself as a bridge between the market for new machinery and the used market where machinery is sold as is and without any warranty. “No platform manufacturer currently offers this in Europe. It’s an offer that shows how we are different and add value to what is currently available on the market,” Ludovic Jankov (Used Product Manager) explained. In fact, Restart by Haulotte places a warranty on the quality of the machinery that are reviewed by platform specialists. The lead times compared to what is available in the new market are also unbeatable.
RESTART by Haulotte has three refurbishment levels to meet all needs and budgets: Verified, Certified and Certified+. Emmanuel Chabaneix (RESTART Center Director) stated, “What makes a difference is also the guarantee we give on parts and labor for the Certified and Certified+ levels.”
Restart Teams Assemble
This refurbishment program is completely new. Under RESTART by Haulotte, platforms are bought and refurbished by our teams. Operators at the center have taken many training courses, running from theory, hydraulic technology and electric systems to platform operation, loading and unloading. They also trained on the ground in our Reims and Creusot factories (see our article in Together #11) and with the Haulotte France subsidiary.
As Emmanuel Chabaneix pointed out, “once the teams have experience in assembling, they can adapt to each new model that comes their way. They should be commended! They are one with Haulotte’s Let’s Dare values.”
Another quirk of the project was the time taken to get it up and running was extraordinarily short! Once the executive committee agreed on its idea in March 2021, the center was established by early 2022.
At the moment, some fifty machines have been bought for refurbishment and the initial sales were recorded at the start of the summer.
Strategic Issues
The Restart by Haulotte program fits completely within the Group’s CSR policy. It is creating a genuine circular economy of our machines and lengthening their life cycles. The platforms placed back on the market by the Restart Center have the backing of Haulotte’s expertise and are certified, which will increase their resale value should they ever be sold on again.
Refurbishing the platforms helps reduce our carbon footprint. “When you produce a ton of steel, you release two tons of CO2. Repairing and reusing the machines can save us money on materials and reduce our emissions,” Ludovic explained.
Once refurbished, the platforms are put up for sale online directly with our network of European subsidiaries. Ludovic underlined that “we depend on our distribution network to get behind this offer and promote it.”
A new business with great prospects!
