What is it exactly?
“A digital incubator within the company”, explains Ludovic Lemarchand, who is behind the e-Lab adventure together with Xavier Macé and Clément Viaouët. Ludovic has a background in R&D, Xavier in IT&S and Clément in Marketing. The result is a complementary team. “This trio of R&D, marketing and IT is the strength of the e-Lab,” agree the three protagonists, who don’t hesitate to bounce ideas off each other to progress in start-up mode.
The digital experiment open to all
“We plan to explore ideas with those who suggest them,” adds Xavier Macé. Anyone can approach the team at the e-Lab – the space dedicated to digital experimentation – and share their idea. That is exactly what the e-Lab concept is all about: collecting and enriching digital-based ideas, in other words, using the collective intelligence of the Haulotte group. Everyone can contribute, whatever their job and wherever they are, in a factory, subsidiary, logistics platform or at H3.
Each idea will be studied, and a mock-up will be made for all those selected. This not only puts the idea into concrete form, but is also a convincing way to demonstrate its worth – or lack thereof.
Another advantage, and a significant one at that, is that a mock-up can be developed quickly and cheaply. Either the idea is convincing and can be developed further, or its potential is doubtful and “it is easy to abandon it because it will not have incurred major investment. The ideas we select will be those which will bring value for the company and our customers”, says Clément Viaouët.
Contributing to the company’s transformation
The three members of the e-Lab will categorize the ideas put forward, detecting their potential according to their area of expertise. “We act as a catalyst,” explains Xavier Macé. The idea is to bring out the best in our employees.” In this way, everyone has the opportunity to contribute to the company’s transformation. Haulotte’s international side also makes it possible to draw on good ideas all over the world. “The idea is to tap into the group’s cultural and professional diversity,” says Ludovic Lemarchand.
Ludovic, Xavier and Clément summarize the ambition of the e-Lab as follows: “become the digital experimentation collaborative space to speed up the group’s transformation and the development of our solutions.”
